Résumé

Electromagnetic Resilience of Wind Energy Systems examines the challenge of protecting wind turbines against lightning and its electromagnetic effects. Beginning with turbine architecture, scaling, blade materials, and operating principles, the book explains why tall, rotating structures are uniquely exposed to atmospheric electrical activity. It then develops the physics of thunderstorm electrification, lightning leaders, attachment, return strokes, and associated damage mechanisms. Building on this foundation, the book presents mathematical lightning-current models, electromagnetic-field calculations, and FDTD and finite-element approaches for studying turbine interactions. Particular attention is given to blade receptors, composite materials, grounding, bonding, surge protection, and electromagnetic compatibility. By linking atmospheric physics, numerical modeling, and practical protection engineering, the book provides a rigorous framework for improving wind-turbine reliability and lightning resilience
