الملخص

The Contribution of Visual Memory to the Construction of Meaning is an academic and pedagogical study of how visual memory supports reading comprehension and the formation of meaning. The book begins from a classroom observation: learners may read fluently aloud without truly understanding, because they do not transform written signs into mental images. It first explains the architecture of memory, including iconic, working, visual, auditory, motor, semantic and lexical memory, and shows how perception, identification, recording, recognition, conceptualization and adaptation contribute to understanding. The second part presents reading as an interaction between the eyes and the mind, involving automatic, affective and logical dimensions, as well as the relationship between writer, text and reader. The book then analyzes how meaning is built through curiosity, perception, memorization and synthesis, with attention to context, logical connectors, inference, schematization and visual organization. Its pedagogical chapters propose classroom strategies such as visualization, mapping, color-coding, grids of understanding, guided observation, hypothesis building, reformulation and visual routines. The final chapter broadens the discussion to digital reading, visual literacy and a philosophy of “seeing as understanding.” The work is intended for teachers, students, trainers and researchers interested in reading, cognition and education.
