Abstract
Economic partnerships and foreign trade shape how countries cooperate, exchange goods and services, and organise regional markets. This book introduces the concepts and forms of economic partnership and distinguishes them from successive stages of economic integration. It examines the determinants and indicators of foreign trade, followed by classical and contemporary theories of international exchange. The discussion then considers trade creation and trade diversion, drawing on Jacob Viner’s analysis, alongside the dynamic effects of partnership arrangements on trade flows and liberalisation. The final chapter reviews experiences of economic integration in Europe, Asia and the Americas, comparing institutional arrangements and objectives across regions.
